Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas argued with a law enforcement officer at an airport in Bozeman, Montana, a video posted on Reddit on Sunday appears to show.
The 23-second video shows a visibly frustrated Cruz speaking with two female representatives at the United Airlines check-in desk. It later shows him speaking with a male officer as the senators gesticulates with a cell phone in his hand.
Scott Humphrey, deputy director of Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, told the Daily Mail that Cruz was frustrated because he had missed the check-in window for his flight.
"One of our Public Safety Officers (PSO) was in the ticket lobby and was asked to assist with a frustrated passenger at the United ticket counter (which is not unusual)," said Humphrey. "The passenger had missed the check-in window for his flight and re-booking options were limited out of Bozeman due to Spring Break."
But he also confirmed that the Texas Republican and former 2016 presidential candidate made it onto another flight.
"Once travel options were explained to the passenger, he was rebooked and departed Bozeman later that evening," said Humphrey. "Our PSO didn't realize he was dealing with Senator Cruz until after the fact."
Cruz did make in back to Washington, DC in time for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's Supreme Court confirmation hearings on Monday.
The senator's office did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
This is not the first time Cruz has had a high-profile incident in an airport. In February 2021, Cruz took a vacation with his family to Cancun, Mexico, as his state was reeling from the effects of a devastating winter storm.
"With school cancelled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends," said Cruz after photos emerged of him at the Cancun airport. "Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon."
