The clip was shared on Twitter by a user named elatticus and was captioned: "A woman was singing from her apartment window and this was her neighbors reaction..".

People were stunned by the soprano's "outstanding" and "amazing" talent, with many saying it gave them "chills" and moved them to tears. Others said it made them feel hope and praised her courage for rebelling against the silence curfew.

The moment was made even more significant because of Ayleen's choice of song, which holds special meaning to the people of Chile; it was an anthem during political unrest in the 70s.

"FYI this was in Santiago, Chile during a government imposed curfew following demonstrations," elatticus, who lives in New York City, explained in a follow-up tweet.

"Her name is Ayleen Jovita Romero. She's singing El derecho de vivir en paz - or 'The right to live in peace'."

The curfew was the result of ongoing civil unrest in the country with people protesting against inequality and the increased cost of living.

It began on October 6, when there was a subway fare increase in Santiago, which caused students to jump the turnstiles.

This event triggered wider protests across the city, as well as looting, vandalism and arson, which eventually forced President Sebastián Piñera to declare a state of emergency, as residents were told to stay indoors between the hours of 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Ayleen, who came in third in the Opéra-Chili 2019 contest and has sung in a production of Bellini's Norma in Santago, originally shared her own video of the viral moment on Instagram on October 22, filmed from a different angle. It has since racked up 11,190 likes.

"We demonstrate peacefully during this curfew, all the neighbours here supporting the cause by singing and playing their beautiful instruments [...] here is my little piece," she captioned her post (translated from Spanish).

"I invite other artists to do the same in their homes, people thank you and do you good. It is necessary."

The political issues are still raging on in the country, with one million people taking to the streets on October 25 to protest against the government.

But during this brief performance, they had a moment's peace.
