Meghan Markle's dad was hospitalized Monday after having a stroke, his representative confirmed to Insider.

Thomas Markle, 77, was taken in an ambulance from Tijuana, Mexico to Chula Vista, California at 9:30 p.m. Monday, his rep said.

He was admitted to the hospital after sharing with paramedics he feared he was having a stroke.

Thomas could not speak when he arrived at the emergency room and had to write down his symptoms, according to his representative.

The representative told Insider Thomas' condition is currently unknown and he is not having visitors at this time.

Thomas has had health scares in the past; he had two heart attacks just before Meghan's wedding to Prince Harry in 2018, according to TMZ.

The Guardian reported that Thomas and Meghan haven't spoken since before her royal wedding to Prince Harry. Kensington Palace announced that Meghan's parents would play a large role in the wedding, but Thomas dropped out of the ceremony on two separate occasions.

TMZ reported at the time that Thomas accepted money to stage photographs for the paparazzi.

In February 2019, Thomas provided Mail on Sunday a letter purportedly written by Meghan, that accused him of lying about his attempts to contact her and falsely claimed that she never gave him money.

At the time, People reported that Meghan asked her father to stop speaking to the media.

Thomas later told The Sun in January 2021 that he's working on a documentary to "figure out what went wrong" in his relationship with his daughter. That same month, Thomas said a letter Meghan sent him after her wedding "signaled the end" of their relationship.

In March 2021, Meghan called out her father during her and Prince Harry's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. During the discussion, Meghan claimed her father lied to her about talking to British tabloids.

Most recently, Thomas said he supported Meghan's half-sister, Samantha Markle, in her defamation lawsuit against the royal.

"I've been trying for almost four years to get to see my daughter and her ginger husband in a courtroom face-to-face," Thomas said in a YouTube video posted in March 2022. "I haven't seen them face-to-face or my grandchildren, so I'd be thrilled to come to court and talk and defend my oldest daughter."
