1. Mass murderer Charles Manson died. 83-year-old Manson was serving nine life sentences and died of natural causeson Sunday night.
2. Germany’s coalition talks dissolved, thrusting the country into political uncertainty. Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative bloc won 32.5% of votes in September’s election, but the country may be headed for another election if she fails to form a coalition.
3. Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has been ousted from his party but has not resigned as expected. Last week, the Zimbabwe military staged a dramatic takeover in order to unseat 93-year-old Mugabe.
4. UK’s Finance Minister is hopeful an EU-UK trade deal could be agreed on before Brexit in March 2019. Philip Hammond’s comments follow EU Brexit Secretary David Davis’ calls for more compromise between the UK and EU. 5. Russian President Vladimir Putin considered quitting. A former Kremlin advisor says Putin’s regime is entering a “terminal” phase and could transition “to a post-Putin Russia.”
6. The Syrian army took control over Albu Kamal, the Islamic State's last significant town in Syria. The Islamic State is said to have only a few villages along the Euphrates and patches of nearby desert.
7. Lebanon's President Saad al-Hariri will visit Egypt on Tuesday. Hariri resigned earlier this month but said he will return to Lebanon by Wednesday for its Independence Day celebrations.
8. Cambodia's Prime Minister challenged the US for announcing aid cuts. The US is ending funding for Cambodia's election after Cambodia's main opposition party was dissolved by the Supreme Court.
9. 15 people were killed in a human stampede in Morocco while they were waiting for food aid. Five others were injured as food was being distributed in a southern village.
10. Chile's former President Sebastian Pinera failed to win Sunday's presidential election outright. Pinera fell short of the victory needed to avoid a run-off vote, and is set to face Alejandro Guillier in a December election.
