As part of Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked events on August 5 and September 1, the company unveiled its latest foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The new device will serve as the successor to the previously released Samsung Galaxy Fold.
Building upon the original model, the new Galaxy Z Fold 2 will feature some key improvements, including a thinner body and smaller gap between screens when the phone is closed. The device also uses a refined hinge system that Samsung says is more durable, enabling the smartphone to fold and stand upright. The hinge has been designed to hide behind the Samsung logo positioned on the back of the smartphone.
To address feedback Samsung received about the original Galaxy Fold's front screen, the Z Fold 2 will incorporate an upgraded front display with a wider 6.2-inch screen size. This will allow you to use the device like a more traditional smartphone when it's closed. When unfolded, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 unveils a larger 7.6-inch screen for a tablet-like experience. The screen has also been optimized to provide better flexibility, and uses 120Hz refresh rate technology for an ultra-smooth experience while swiping and tapping around the Android operating system and apps.
Speaking of the Android operating system, Samsung promises to support the Galaxy Z Fold 2 with three generations of Android. Up until recently, Samsung used to support only two generations of Android.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 starts at $2,000 at its full retail price, and it can be preordered from Samsung's website, Best Buy, Amazon, and Verizon.
