President Joe Biden believes that Donald Trump should be prosecuted over the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol, The New York Times reports.
President Biden also described Trump as a "threat to democracy," according to sources the newspaper interviewed.
The Times said their report was based on interviews with more than a dozen people, "including officials in the Biden administration and people with knowledge of the president's thinking." All requested anonymity said the report.
Biden is frustrated with US Attorney General Merrick Garland, who is investigating the riots, according to people close to the president.
Biden has described Garland as a "ponderous judge" and says he wants him to take more "decisive action" over the Capitol siege, according to The Times.
Rep. Elaine Luria, a Virginia Democrat on the House committee, set up to investigate the riots, and told Garland to "do your job so that we can do ours."
Mary Trump, the niece of the former president, has previously said that Garland is an "idiot" for not prosecuting her uncle over the riot.
The January 6 committee recently said in a new court filing that they believe Trump had broken the law in trying to overturn the 2020 election results.
