Porn star Stormy Daniels has been arrested in Columbus, Ohio for allowing a customer to touch her while performing at a strip club on Wednesday, according to her attorney, Michael Avenatti.
“Just [received] word that my client @StormyDaniels was arrested in Columbus Ohio [while] performing the same act she has performed across the nation at nearly a hundred strip clubs,” attorney Michael Avenatti said in a tweet. “This was a setup & politically motivated.”
“It reeks of desperation,” Avenatti added. “We will fight all bogus charges. #Basta.”
Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, allegedly allowed a customer to “touch her while on stage in a nonsexual manner,” Avenatti said in another tweet.
"Are you kidding me?," Avenatti said. "They are devoting law enforcement resources to sting operations for this? There has to be higher priorities!!!"
Under Ohio's Community Defense Act, anyone who is not a family member is prohibited from touching a nude or semi-nude dancer and their clothes, anywhere at the club, including the parking lot according to The Columbus Dispatch.
Daniels is expected to be released on bail and charged with a misdemeanor, according to Avenatti. She was scheduled to perform at the Sirens strip club in Columbus on Wednesday and Thursday.
Avenatti is representing Daniels in a civil litigation case against President Donald Trump and his longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen. Daniels was paid $130,000 by Cohen to keep silent about an affair she says she had with Trump in 2006. She wants to be freed from her nondisclosure agreement.
Cohen admitted he personally made a $130,000 payment to Daniels with his own money, but denied that Trump or his campaign was involved in the transaction. The payment was made a month before the 2016 US presidential election and raised suspicion that it served as a hush-money payment.
Daniels was quoted in a 2011 interview saying she had an affair with Trump, but publicly denied it ever happened until filing her lawsuit.
