- In just two years since their launch, Perigold has become the largest luxury furniture and home goods retailer on the internet.
- They carry brands never before available online, such as Arteriors, Schumacher, Brownstone, Sferra, Frette, and Noir.
- I tested out a Hooker dining room table from Perigold, and I will never shop for high-end furniture in a store again.
My husband and I recently purchased our 100-year-old, 6,000-square-foot colonial-style dream home. Unfortunately, our moving truck only contained about 2,000-square-feet worth of furnishings, so we had some serious shopping to do.
As with fashion and beauty, my interior design strategy has always been a blend between frugal finds and luxurious splurges. While not everything needs to be top-of-the-line, high quality, and a lifelong investment, most interior designers encourage spending more money on a few key pieces in your home.
When it came time to do some shopping for these items – which included a nine-person table for our formal dining room – I hit the usual spots, which included Restoration Hardware, Frontgate, and Arhaus. During my online search for the perfect dining room table, I stumbled upon Perigold.
What is Perigold?
Despite the fact that Perigold celebrated their two-year-anniversary in Septemeber - and is owned by the Wayfair umbrella that includes Birch Lane, AllModern, and Joss & Main - I had never heard of them.
However, I was familiar with many of the brands they carried, like Jonathan Adler, Hooker, Henredon, Maitland Smith, Maria Yee, Arteriors, Schumacher, Brownstone, Sferra, Frette, Noir, and Fine Furniture & Design. I was actually quite surprised to find many of these high-end lines available online, as they are usually only sold in brick-and-mortar luxury furniture stores.
Since launching in 2017, Perigold has more than doubled its selection, now offering more than 200,000 pieces of luxury furniture and decor spanning all categories for the home. While many online furniture retailers cater to a specific design style, on Perigold you can find almost anything. Whether you are looking for a mid-century modern inspired Four Hands tulip table or a fit-for-a-royal decadent custom-made Franceso Molon dining table for $120,000 (yes, you read that correctly!), you can place your order with the click of a button.
"Since launch, we've helped our customers discover the largest-ever collection of luxury furnishings across every style, by granting access to the design world's most trusted brands - some of which were previously reserved for showrooms and industry professionals," Rebecca Ginns, general manager, Perigold, told Insider Picks. "As we enter our third year, we look forward to continuing to offer our extensive collection of extraordinary pieces that are sure to elevate any home."
How I found the perfect dining room table on Perigold
I first discovered Perigold when I was looking for a dining room table. I was searching for something on the higher end, similar in style to Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn. After I stumbled on the site, I started browsing their many offerings.
The website was incredibly easy to navigate and using search terms such as "farmhouse dining table" pulled up targeted results. In fact, a smaller version of the table I ended up falling in love with - the Sorella Extendable Dining Table, a rustic, trestle table from Hooker - was one of the first listings. When I clicked on it, it showed me a bunch of similar options, including various matching dining chairs and even a sideboard. It also brought me to the Hooker table set that would end up in my formal dining room.
I was well aware of the Hooker brand, a family-owned furniture company that has been around since 1924 and has a great reputation for long-lasting, well-made, timeless, and simply gorgeous furniture. Growing up, I remember shopping in high-end stores for Hooker furniture with my parents. The brand is very highly rated on Perigold, with an average of 4.7 stars our 5 with more than 27,000 reviews.
The table was similar to one of Restoration Hardware's most popular styles that I had my eye on for a while, but cost significantly less and featured unique design elements. The RH table alone cost over $7,000 - almost $5,000 more than this one. I also really liked the chairs that went along with the table, which were sold a la carte or as a complete set with the table. The complete set, including the table and eight chairs, actually cost less than the RH table alone.
Their free shipping, white-glove delivery, and return policy were a huge bonus
Something else I was immediately drawn to was their free, all-inclusive delivery and assembly. Many other furniture companies and stores charge extra for delivery, box removal, and assembly. For an item this large, it would be nearly impossible to set it up on my own. And since I absolutely loathe paying extra for shipping, free delivery on purchases over $49 was a big selling point. I will point out that additional shipping charges may apply for Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories. And some items, like flooring or large fixtures, may be subject to additional charges.
As for their return policy, they give you 30 days to return almost anything, with the exclusion of clearance items, gift cards, personalized items, nonreturnable items, or assembled items. However, if your order arrives damaged or defective, "these exceptions do not apply," Perigold notes on their website. "In this case, we'll take care of it and work with you to find the best solution." While I never had to return anything to them, my returns experience with Wayfair brands has always been seamless.
From placing my order on Perigold to delivery, it was a seamless process
My whole experience with Perigold, from placing my order to delivery, was absolutely seamless. Less than a week after my order was placed, I received a call to schedule delivery, which we set up for a few days later. Some items, depending on their size and delivery type, can even be delivered in just a few days.
On delivery day, the drivers showed up promptly. My table and chairs arrived in several, huge boxes. I honestly don't know how I would have been able to unpack them and assemble the set myself. The drivers carefully unpacked and assembled every piece, taking away all of the boxes and packing material when they left. Altogether, they were at my home for about two hours, which was incredibly impressive, considering most furniture delivery people are in and out as quickly as possible. They put a lot of care into delivering and assembling my new table.
As for the table itself, unlike experiences I've had with other furniture brands, it looked even more beautiful in person than online.
The bottom line
If you are shopping for high-end furniture, start and end your search with Perigold. They literally have the biggest selection of designer showroom-quality furniture, which you can browse in the comfort of your home. While the timeline from placing your order to delivery will obviously vary according to vendor, you will not be disappointed with the company's customer service any step of the way.
