An 18-year-old man has been charged with carrying out the Parsons Green bomb attack, police have said.
Ahmed Hassan has been accused of the attack, which took place one week ago in west London. He was arrested at the port of Dover by police the following day.
Hassan, who comes from Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, has been charged with attempted murder and with using illegal explosives, London’s Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court this afternoon.
The police statement spelled out two charges against Hassan:
Attempting to murder persons travelling on a District Line Train from Wimbledon, contrary to section 1(1) Criminal Attempts Act 1981. Causing an explosion with triacetone triperoxide (TATP) or another other explosive substance likely to endager life and causing serious injury to property, contrary to section 2 Explosive Substances Act 1883.
Three other men are currently in police custody as part of the police investigation, but have yet to be charged.
Two men, 21-year-old Yahyah Farroukh and an unnamed 48-year-old, were arrested but have since been released without charge.
