- Sam Altman has tied the knot.
- The OpenAI CEO married software engineer Oliver Mulherin.
- A source familiar told Business Insider the wedding photos on social media are not AI-generated.
Sam Altman and software engineer Oliver Mulherin got married, Business Insider has learned.
Photos of the nuptials between the OpenAI CEO and Mulherin, who lives with Altman in California, flew around social media on Thursday, with some asking if they were real.
A source who attended the wedding told us the photos were "not AI generated images! 😂" The person spoke on condition of anonymity, but their identity is known to BI.
The photos appear to be screenshots from Altman's social media profile on Instagram, which is set to private. They show the couple dressed in crisp white button-down shirts and single orchid boutonnieres, standing under a bamboo chuppah in a tropical place.
In one photo, Altman's brother Jack Altman, cofounder and executive chairman of software startup Lattice, watches in his officiant role as Sam slips a ring onto Mulherin's left hand.
Another photo shows the couple participating in the tradition of breaking glass, a feature of Jewish weddings.
The two appear to have opted for an intimate affair — a photo taken of the ceremony space shows around a dozen people in attendance.
The location and date of the ceremony is unknown.
Altman has kept his relationship with Mulherin relatively private over the years. The pair live together in San Francisco and made one of their first public appearances last year when the OpenAI CEO brought Mulherin along to a dinner at the White House.
More recently, Altman said in an interview with New York Magazine that the pair wants to have kids soon.
