At least a dozen cars caught on fire in a parking lot at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey around 7 a.m. on Thursday, sending a huge plume of black smoke into the air.
The fire was on the top deck of the Terminal C parking garage, which accommodates short-term parking and is near several runways.
Firefighters extinguished the fire around 9:30 a.m., an airport spokesman told INSIDER.

At least 17 vehicles were damaged by the fire, the Newark Airport spokesman told INSIDER.
The airport closed the parking deck, he added. It also briefly closed a passenger pickup area, NBC New York reported.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
No injuries were reported, and airport operations were largely unaffected, NBC New York said, citing the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
