New York Attorney General Tish James announced on Thursday that she is suspending her campaign for governor.
"I have come to the conclusion that I must continue my work as attorney general," James said on Twitter, adding that she would instead run for re-election.
"There are a number of important investigations and cases that are underway, and I intend to finish the job," she wrote.

This announcement comes after reports emerged that she intended to seek an in-person deposition from former President Donald Trump as part of an investigation into the Trump Organization.
James officially entered the gubernatorial race at the end of October, ending what had been months of speculation about her political future. But recent polling had shown James trailing Gov. Kathy Hochul, who's running for a full term.

James, 63, hails from Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood and boasts an impressive resume across city and statewide politics, culminating in her investigation that led to the resignation of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Insider recently reported on the limits of how James would be able to campaign on her record of taking on Trump, which James said would not affect her day job.
"My office remains committed to enforcing the law and holding accountable those who abuse their authority — no matter how powerful," James told Insider in a statement.
With James out of the Democratic primary, the field is now comprised of Hochul, New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, US Rep. Tom Suozzi of Long Island, and potentially outgoing New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
