The mayor of Antwerp, Belgium, Bart De Wever, was caught wearing his underwear during a live video interview at a local radio station this weekend after his reflection was seen in the mirror behind him.
The head of the separatist New Flemish Alliance or Nieuw-Vlaamse Alliantie (N-VA) party was around four minutes into his interview with Radio 2 until the issue was pointed out, the Metro reported.
According to a translation provided by The Brussels Times, host Kim Debrie told De Wever, who has been the mayor of Belgium’s second-largest city since January 2013: “I’m a little distracted.
“You’re wearing a very nice shirt. You probably put it on especially for us. But under that shirt: could it be that you’re sitting there in your underpants (underwear)?” she adds, leaving the Mayor looking confused.
He responds to Debrie by asking: “How can you know that?” before adding, “Damn, because I’m probably sitting in front of a mirror. I had not taken that into account. The year begins with a particularly embarrassing moment. I will remember this for a long time.”
Political rival and leader of The Reformist Movement or Mouvement Réformateur, (MR) party, Georges-Louis Bouchez, soon tweeted an image of a pair of boxer shorts in the colors of the Belgian flag with "I have a New Year's gift for you" and a winking face in the caption.

In June, Irish MEP Luke 'Ming' Flanagan was also thought to have been 'caught pantless' and wearing underwear during an EU meeting after accidentally setting his iPad to portrait mode. He later said that they were running shorts, The Telegraph reported.
