Lawyers at Jones Day, which provides outside counsel to President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign, have donated $90,000 to Trump’s rival Joe Biden — and just $50 to Trump, according to a Reuters analysis.

The Trump campaign has paid the firm more than $4.5 million since the start of 2019, Reuters said.

And it isn’t just lawyers at Jones Day who favor Biden, according to the analysis: Lawyers have collectively donated almost $29 million to Biden’s campaign compared to just under $1.75 million to Trump’s, it showed.

The analysis, which looked at contributions from individual lawyers rather than from firms themselves, covered the period from January 2019 to the end of August 2020, and examined Federal Election Commission records of more than 120,000 donations. It only looked at cases where donors had stated their occupation and employer.

Two Jones Day attorneys who asked to remain anonymous told Reuters they donated to Biden because they preferred his policies, and that they had felt no pressure from colleagues to donate to Trump’s campaign.

Lawyers at three other firms used by Trump or his campaign – Porter Wright Morris & Arthur, Kasowitz Benson Torres, and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius – also donated significantly more to Biden, the analysis showed.

Meanwhile, lawyers at Covington & Burling, which serves as Biden's campaign's outside counsel, donated $240,000 to his campaign, and nothing to Trump, the data showed.

At nearly $370,000, lawyers from Morgan & Morgan donated more to the Biden campaign than any other law firm, Reuters' analysis showed. This was followed by Covington & Burling, Sidley Austin, and Latham & Watkins, all at just under $250,000.

In comparison, lawyers at Fish & Richardson donated the most to the Trump campaign, at $11,355 — but even they donated significantly more to the Biden campaign, Reuters' data showed.

Kirkland & Ellis lawyers came in second in the analysis, with $10,840 in donations to the Trump campaign since January 2019. Again, lawyers at the same firm donated nearly 20 times that amount to the Biden campaign, the data showed.

"It shouldn't be news that rich, liberal lawyers in Biden's pocket are desperately trying to make up for his lackluster candidacy or that every big law firm has lawyers on both sides of the political aisle," Trump campaign spokeswoman Samantha Zager told Reuters.

Jones Day, which has over 2,500 lawyers, did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.
