- It's one of four electric SUVs Jeep is set to launch by 2025.
Jeep has revealed more information about its all-electric plans, by unveiling its first pure electric battery-powered Jeep SUV, on Monday.
Although parent company Stellantis first released images of the vehicle in March, it had previously revealed few details about the design and performance of the Jeep Avenger, which will enter the European market in 2023.
"The Jeep Avenger is the first zero emission SUV for the Jeep brand," said Antonella Bruno, head of Jeep Europe at Stellantis, said in a release to accompany the unveiling at the Paris Auto show.
"It will be the new entry point to the Jeep range and will allow us to complete our SUV coverage and we expect it to become the bestselling model in our portfolio by 2024."
At four meters long, the compact SUV will have a range of up to 248 miles, rising to 341 miles in the urban cycle thanks to a new 54 kWh battery produced by Stellantis.
The battery system sits within a 400 Volt electric powertrain system. It will be able to provide up to 18 miles distance, in just three minutes charging time, if connected to a fast public charge using a 100 kW Mode 4 cable, Stellantis said.
Stellantis has started taking preorders for first edition Avengers until November 30, with the vehicle entering dealerships in 2023.
The Jeep Avenger is the first of four battery-powered SUVs Jeep plans to launch by 2025.
Insider's Tim Levin previously reported that the first two electric Jeep SUVs to enter the North American market under the plan will be the Wagoneer S and Recon. Both are set to go into production in 2024.
Like major automakers globally, Jeep's parent company Stellantis is in the midst of a transition toward electric vehicles. The group whose brands include Dodge, Chrysler, and Maserati, plans to launch 75 new EVs, with the hope of selling five million by 2030.
The company is aiming for 50% of US sales to be electric by that time.
