The Open Championship got underway at Royal Birkdale, Britain, on Thursday and an Australian golfer has already committed a fashion faux pas.
World number six Jason Day teed off wearing a pair of shoes that looked like he had taken style tips from “Back To The Future’s” Martin McFly before beginning his bid for the major.
It did not go unnoticed by viewers:

Are they even legal?
The shoes are part of Day's $10 million (£7.7 million) a year golf deal with Nike, but they look like they belong on the basketball court. They even sport the familiar Jordon logo. Nike does have them listed as golf shoes - albeit in the women's department.
Whether they are up to standards of Royal Birkdale's strict dress code, remains to be seen.
The course's website states: "Smart attire is essential, golf shoes are to be worn; smart tailored shorts may be worn with knee length socks or short socks; sports shorts and combat/cargo shorts are not permitted."
Regardless of dress code, golf fans seem to believe that Day is guilty of a far more serious crime - a crime against fashion.
