In 2018, cable sports channel ESPN launched ESPN+, a subscription-based streaming service for sports.
It's a hybrid service that combines on-demand and live sports video content with an ever-expanding catalog of original shows, documentaries, and news from ESPN Insider, the network's paid news content.
Here's a quick rundown of how much the service will cost you and how much you can save if you choose a bundle package.
Updated on 8/12/2020 by Steven Cohen: Added details about the ESPN+ price increase from $4.99 a month to $5.99 a month.
Signing up for ESPN+
If you just want access to ESPN+, it'll cost you $5.99 per month or $49.99 per year. That's it. If you do the math, signing up for a whole year instead of going month-to-month will save you about $22.
When it first launched ESPN+ costs $4.99 a month, but the monthly rate was increased to $5.99 on August 12, 2020. Existing subscribers who signed up for the $4.99 plan will continue to receive the service for that price for at least one year.
An ESPN+ subscription gets you access to all the video content and ESPN articles in the network's database, including live and on-demand games that aren't available to you locally, and even the beloved "30 under 30" sports documentaries.
You also gain the option to watch exclusive UFC fights for an additional fee. Existing members can purchase UFC PPV events for $64.99. Alternatively, you can sign up for an annual ESPN+ subscription with one UFC PPV event included for a total price of $84.98.
Bundling ESPN+ with Hulu and Disney Plus
If you're interested in Hulu or Disney Plus, it might be a good idea to take advantage of a bundle for $12.99 a month.
The bundle includes ESPN+, the regular version of Hulu with ads, which costs $5.99 a month, and Disney Plus, which costs $6.99 a month. The $12.99 monthly bundle is a good value as it saves you $6 each month. You can also upgrade to other versions of Hulu for an additional fee.
If you're a current subscriber to one of the services, you can upgrade to the discounted bundle here without having to cancel your existing subscription.
Watching ads on Hulu isn't the worst thing to happen, though, especially since there are so many good shows to catch, and Disney Plus is arguably one of the most valuable new streaming services. It launched on November 12, 2019 with tons of existing and new Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars movies, plus new exclusive series like "The Mandalorian."
Is there a free trial?
Previously, there was a free trial to test out ESPN+, but unfortunately, it's no longer on the table. If it becomes available again, we'll update this post.
