At the age of 25, Snap CEO and cofounder Evan Spiegel became one of the world's youngest billionaires nearly a decade ago.
Now 33, Spiegel has seen some major ups and downs over the past few years — his net worth fell from $13.9 billion to $2.3 billion between 2021 and 2022, and he now has an estimated net worth of $3.7 billion, according to Forbes.
More recently, Spiegel has reportedly begun taking a more hands-on and hardline approach at work, focusing increasingly on efficiency.
Outside of the office, Spiegel has an unusual way to unwind, and seems to be a big fan of supermodel wife Miranda Kerr's skincare products.
Here's what his day-to-day looks like throughout the week.
Early mornings are "Evan Time"
Spiegel, who lives on the West Coast, typically wakes up very early — around 5 in the morning.
"I get up really early, because that's the only time that's 'Evan Time' for me, when people aren't really awake yet," he told Entrepreneur's Handbook in a 2018 interview.
He then checks Snap, checks his email, and drinks a double espresso, Snap told Business Insider.
Around 5:30 a.m., Spiegel either exercises at the gym for 45 minutes or spends the time doing Kriya meditation.
At 6:15 a.m. he showers, using products from wife Miranda Kerr's beauty company, Kora Organics. He's been using the same turmeric face scrub for years — Kerr told New Beauty in 2019 that Spiegel likes to use a turmeric face mask from her company that has peppermint oil in it, because it's "so invigorating." Snap told BI that he still uses it.
Kerr said in the 2019 interview that her first impression of her now-husband was that he was "cute," but "wow, his skin is flaky!'"
At 6:30 a.m., Spiegel spends some time reading the news — primarily the Wall Street Journal and Financial Times. Around 7:00 a.m., he has breakfast with his family, then heads into the office.
When possible, Spiegel also drops his kids off at school. He and Kerr have two children together, are currently expecting their third, and also coparent Kerr's son from her first marriage to Orlando Bloom.
Although Spiegel said in an interview back in 2018 that he would often fly in the morning to relax (Spiegel is a licensed helicopter pilot), Snap told BI that he doesn't do as much flying nowadays given his family responsibilities.
Work days: Spending more time with Snap's monetization team
Spiegel's time at the office varies from day to day. Lately, however, he has been spending more time with the monetization team, Snap told BI, as the company focuses on increasing revenue.
Back in 2018, Spiegel said that design was his favorite part of his job, and that's apparently still the case.
Design is still Spiegel's favorite part of the job, Snap told BI, and said the company has kept the design team small and close-knit so that he can more easily review ideas with the team.
Spiegel had previously called the rest of his non-design work and meetings "slightly more boring stuff" — he'd spend much of his time during board meetings tied to his phone and messaging people on Snapchat, BI reported in 2018.
Spiegel has also apparently been taking a much more hardline and hands-on approach at work than he used to, reportedly emulating the "extremely hardcore" work culture that Musk has been pushing at X.
Before he leaves work, Spiegel tries to check in with the monetization, engineering, and product teams on their progress, Snap told BI.
On Fridays, Spiegel often sets aside half an hour to speak with an expert in a field that interests him, Snap told BI, which sometimes relates to his philanthropic investments. Recent topics include ocean abundance and an update on California 100, a project that envisions the long-term future of California.
Evenings and weekends are for family — and some hobbies
Spiegel leaves work around 6:30 p.m., returning home and spending some time reading to his kids, Snap told BI. He and Kerr have dinner together around 7:30 p.m., he showers around 8:30 p.m., and 9 p.m. is bedtime.
On Saturdays, Spiegel often takes French lessons and flying lessons. Although he already has his commercial helicopter license, he's currently completing his fixed-wing (airplane) commercial license, Snap told BI.
Sundays are set aside to spend time with his family. Lately that involves reading Harry Potter together with his kids, or iRacing. Spiegel built his kids a racing simulator for Christmas, Snap told BI, and his kids also enjoy driving their Cyberquad ATVs, a Cybertruck-esque ATV for kids made by Tesla.
