A former Los Angeles Police Department officer accused of killing a man inside a California Costco in the summer of 2019 has been charged with manslaughter and assault with a semiautomatic firearm, according to a criminal complaint.
Salvador Sanchez was arrested in Riverside County on Monday stemming from the June 2019 shooting.
Sanchez, who was off duty at the time, was recorded on police body-worn camera video obtained by KNBC, firing at 32-year-old Kenneth French. Sanchez was recorded saying he thought French had a gun in his hand and had shot at him first.
Police later determined that French did not have a weapon.
French's parents were also wounded in the shooting.
