- Donald Trump Jr. said he is lobbying for his father to choose a "fighter" as his running mate.
- He said he is suggesting people like Tucker Carlson, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Sen. JD Vance.
- Donald Trump is still unsure about who will be his vice presidential pick, reports say.
Donald Trump Jr. said he's lobbying his father to pick a "fighter" like Tucker Carlson or Vivek Ramaswamy to be his running mate.
"What I want in that role is I want a fighter," Trump Jr. told The New York Post, "I understand what they are going to throw at us."
"The vicious nature of the swamp and the insanity we see on a daily basis, you need someone who can take those hits," he said.
Trump Jr. said he has been pushing candidates like Sen. JD Vance, former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, and right-wing former Fox TV host Tucker Carlson.
Trump Jr., filmed answering reporters' questions in a video published by the New York Post, said he would "love to see Tucker Carlson go up against Kamala Harris; that would be fun."
He added that he plans to have a "very active" role in the 2024 presidential transition team if his father were to be re-elected.
Trump Jr. is a key surrogate for his father on the campaign trail, often appearing at events and doing media interviews on his behalf.
However, it is unclear how much sway he actually has over his father's decision-making.
The senior Trump, now officially the Republican presidential candidate for 2024, is reportedly still unsure who he will choose to be his running mate.
Multiple reports say that Trump is still weighing up many candidates, and has a lengthy list of options, with the frontrunner prone to changing.
Trump has indicated behind closed doors that he will reveal his vice presidential pick in the early summer before the Republican convention, sources told CNN.
Meanwhile, Nicole Shanahan, lawyer and ex-wife of Google cofounder Sergey Brin, has been selected as Robert Kennedy Jr. running mate.
The independent candidate revealed Shanahan as his vice-president pick at a press conference in Oakland, California, earlier this week.
Tony Lyons, a co-chairman of American Values 2024, told Business Insider in February. "She's a lifelong Democrat. And she believes that Bobby Kennedy is aligned with her fundamental values."
As Business Insider has previously reported, Kennedy has made numerous false claims about vaccines and vaccine safety.
