• Oprah Winfrey is reportedly considering running for president as a Democrat in 2020.
  • Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California on Monday said there was “no reason she shouldn’t if she wants to.”

WASHINGTON – On the heels of speculation that Oprah Winfrey could run for president in 2020, Sen. Dianne Feinstein said the door was open for the billionaire media mogul if she so desired.

“Oprah is a well-known personality – no reason she shouldn’t if she wants to,” Feinstein told Business Insider on Monday.

Feinstein added that while anyone could run, “it doesn’t determine who wins.”

“People run all the time,” she said.

Winfrey has been reported to be mulling the concept of challenging President Donald Trump after a speech Sunday night at the Golden Globe awards.

"I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon, and when that new day finally dawns it will be because of a lot of magnificent women - many of whom are right here in this room tonight - and some pretty phenomenal men fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time where nobody ever has to say 'me too' again," Winfrey said.

Speculation and encouragement to run followed Winfrey's speech, with many on Twitter calling on her to mount a campaign.

But Winfrey has recently shot down the prospect of running for office, telling CBS in October that "there will be no running of office of any kind" for her.
