- Apple revealed new iPad Air and iPad Pro models at its "Let Loose" event on Tuesday.
- The iPad Pro models are the first to feature OLED displays with deeper contrast.
- Apple also unveiled new accessories including a new Magic Keyboard and Pencil stylus.
Apple overhauled its iPad lineup on Tuesday during its "Let Loose" event in California — including fancy new screens for its top-of-the-line "Pro" models.
Apple CEO Tim Cook called it "the biggest day for iPad since its introduction," and it looks like the tech giant did some serious updates.
The iPad Air will now come in two sizes —a 13-inch display or the smaller 11-inch option. The front-facing camera is now located on the side of the bezel for the first time.
The iPad Air comes in four colors: a new blue, a new purple, and the usual Starlight and Space Gray. Storage starts at 128 GB but now also has two new options, 512 GB and 1TB. The 11-inch Air costs $599, and the 13-inch is $799. They're ready to order today and will be available next week.
Say hello to the new iPad Pro, the first with an OLED screen
The new iPad Pro, which features Apple's M4 chip, is the "thinnest Apple product ever" with the 13-inch option coming in at 5.1 millimeters — thinner than an iPod Nano.
But the standout feature is the new screens, which are the first OLED displays in the iPad lineup. The new screen, which Apple calls the "Ultra Retina XDR," offers richer colors and better contrast.
Those new screens appear to have boosted the price of the Pro lineup. The new 11-inch iPad Pro is available to order today for $999, and the larger 13-inch option costs $1299 — a $200 increase over the previous generation.
Apple touted the M4 chip as four times faster than the old M2 chip, and 10 times faster than the original iPad Pro launched in 2015.
Apple says the M4 is an "outrageously powerful chip for AI." Apple says the chip will enable iPad users to isolate a subject from its background in a photo and a video with a tap in Final Cut Pro.
The iPad Pro's back and front-facing cameras are 12 megapixels, and it has a new "true-tone" flash that will use AI to adjust to shadows when scanning documents. The front-facing camera is also now located on the landscape bezel, similar to the Air models.
Apple also unveiled new iPad accessories on Tuesday, including a new Magic Keyboard and Pencil Pro stylus for $129.
Apple is looking to boost iPad revenue as the lineup grew stale. The last major iPad release was in 2022. In Apple's fiscal Q2, iPad sales missed analysts' estimates with a revenue of $5.56 billion — down 17% from last year.
