A baggage handler lost his job after writing an offensive word on a tag on a passenger’s bag.

The passenger, Sonny Tilbury was flying with Qantas from Perth, Western Australia to the small city of Karratha, around 800 miles north, last Friday. When he retrieved his luggage, he found the word “cunt” had been written on it in green marker and shared a picture on Instagram.

“Clearly the Qantas baggage handler at Perth Airport wasn’t happy lifting my bag,” Tilbury said in the post. “He left me a nice note to read on arrival.”

The offensive word was written on a label that identified the bag as heavy, noting that “assisted lift may be required.” It was weighed at 31 kilograms or 68 pounds.

7News reported that Qantas has apologized to Tilbury and offered him a travel voucher.

This is clearly unacceptable behavior," Qantas said in a statement shared with Business Insider. "Menzies, our ground handling provider at Perth Airport, has assured us that the baggage handler involved will never work on Qantas Group aircraft again."

"We have sincerely apologized to Mr Tilbury," it added.

The Australian flag carrier came under fire last September when its CEO stepped down and received a $24 million bonus, in the wake of a lawsuit that alleged Qantas sold tickets for flights that had already been canceled.
