£1 million is a lot of money.
When it comes to buying a home, location makes a huge difference to how much you get for your money.
We asked a number of estate agents for properties on the market for approximately £1 million in various parts of the UK.
From a seven-bedroom Victorian house in the countryside to a one-bedroom flat in a big city, here are nine properties you can buy for £1 million around the country, ranked by their size and quality:
Note: Some estate agents could not disclose certain properties for client confidentiality reasons. Where properties for exactly £1 million were unavailable from estate agents, properties listed for £999,999 have been rounded up and specified below.
13. A one-bedroom flat in Bayswater, west London, is all you'll get for £1 million. At least the apartment is housed inside this impressive Grade II-listed, stucco-fronted building.
The 865-square-foot flat has a modern, simple decor that's technologically enhanced with an AV system that's wirelessly hooked up to the living room and bedroom tucked away in a hallway cabinet. The flat also has a small private (though concrete) garden.
12. In southwest London, £1 million will get you a one-bedroom flat at Chelsea Island, a new residential development by the Thames and a short distance from Chelsea's King's Road.
All residents have access to a large roof terrace with city views, which they can also enjoy from their own flats, which boast floor-to-ceiling windows.

11. Spending a million in London's Highgate Village will get you a two-bedroom, split-level flat.
The flat's bedrooms are double-sized so there's plenty of space, as well as a roof terrace with views of Waterlow Park and the city beyond.
10. In west London, £1 million can get you a two-bedroom, lower ground-floor flat in this house in Notting Hill.
While the master bedroom comes with a walk-in wardrobe and en-suite shower room, space is a little tight elsewhere in the 836-square-foot apartment, with the washing machine stored in the bathroom.
9. In Brighton, £1 million will get you a three-bedroom Georgian maisonette spread across three floors. On all levels, the triplex flat has sash windows with beach views, and, on one floor, a balcony.
While the third floor is dedicated to the master bedroom, period features throughout the flat include fireplaces and an Art Nouveau cast-iron stove in the kitchen.
8. This three-bedroom coastal home in Fowey, Cornwall, will set you back £1 million.
Buyers benefit from a scenic location, with idyllic sea views from a balcony. During colder months, there's a sun room bordered by windows that let in plenty of natural light and offer magnificent views.
7. In the Suffolk countryside, £1 million will buy you an entire Grade II-listed, contemporary house, created by architect Peter Aldington. Built between 1975 and 1978 in Higham, Colchester, the four-bedroom property was made to look like a "glass pavilion floating in the landscape," according to Knight Frank.
Inside, the house is arranged in a spacious open-plan setting, with up to three reception rooms. It also has two bathrooms, a private garden, and plenty of land.
6. In the pretty village of Sonning, Surrey, you can buy a million-pound four-bedroom house that was conceived by the architect Glen Beard in 1984. It's not hard to see why it's called the Round House.
The Round House has won awards thanks to its quirky, open-plan design, which is based around a central atrium. The house also comes with a landscaped garden set across multiple levels, with a waterfall and patio areas.
5. Pear Tree Cottage in the picturesque village of Wyck Rissington in Cheltenham is an idyllic four-bedroom family home. The million-pound Cotswolds property was originally built in the 17th century and has a wrap-around garden with stables.
Meanwhile, the interior has plenty of rustic features like exposed timber beams and two fireplaces.
4. For £1 million, buyers in Surrey can get a four to five-bedroom semi-detached house in West Byfleet. One of the property's best features — a walk-in closet — can be found in the master bedroom.
The living room looks fairly basic, but it's one of three reception areas in the house. There's also a cloakroom where guests can leave their belongings.
3. For £999,999 — just shy of £1 million — you can get a five-bedroom detached stone house in Whalton, Northumberland.
There's even a swimming pool!
2. South Grange — a stunning stone detached villa in the town of Ryton near Tyne and Wear — is available to buyers for just under £1 million at £999,999. Inside the six-bedroom property (no photos of the interior are available), highlights include period detailing throughout and a master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom complete with a Jacuzzi tub and two sinks.
1. Oaklawn, a grand Victorian villa in Malvern, is spread across three floors, covering nearly 4,000-square-feet. The Grade II-listed property has as many as seven bedrooms, with plenty of room for guests.
Details are everything at this million-pound home, which is adorned with period features including intricate ceiling coving, panelled doors, marble fireplaces, and large French windows with views of the countryside.
